According to the J.D. Power ALG Residual Value Awards, the 2025 Hyundai Kona is the Electric SUV that’s expected to retain the highest percentage of its original manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) over three years. The little all-electric crossover currently starts at $32,875, already putting it in the affordable segment of EVs.
In this price range, slow depreciation is important as it affects overall vehicle value and total ownership cost. However, it’s worth remembering that, historically, EVs depreciate faster than other vehicles. The estimation of resale value is also an important part of brands determining lease costs. In theory, projected higher resale values should reduce lease prices.
Other Standout Performers Are Surprising
The EV section of the J.D. Power Residual Value Awards features other segments. The electric car the company believes will hold value best is the Dodge Charger Daytona – a car that hasn’t been released yet. For the Electric Premium Car award, J.D. Power is backing the Tesla Model 3. For the Electric Premium SUV segment, J.D. Power gives its Residual Value Award to the GMC Hummer EV SUV, and the GMC Hummer EV SUT is the pick for the Electric Large Light Duty Truck award.
